George W. Gromley

Salem -                 George W. Gromley, 85, passed away at 11:40 PM Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at his home.

                George was born October 29, 1932 in Salem, a son of the late James and Elsie (Burt) Gromley.

                He served two years in the Army during the Korean Conflict.    

                George worked over fifty years as a carpenter and millwright in the building trade. He also operated a small farm. At one time, he served as a township constable and a short term as a township trustee.

                He was a member of the Highland Christian Church and had attended Harvest Baptist Church in Lisbon.  He was a member of the American Legion Post #275 and the Columbiana County Farm Bureau.

                He collected and restored antique farm machinery.

                His wife, Joan A. (Driscoll) Gromley, whom he married March 23, 1956, preceded him in death on December 21, 1991.

                Survivors include a daughter, Cathie (Dale) Evans of Salem, a son, Mark (Gladys) Gromley of Kensington; three grandchildren: Daniel (Angela) Evans, Heather (Thomas) Channell, and Troy Gromley; and four great-grandchildren: Finnegan and Nora Evans, and Maxwell and Juniper Channell.

                He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; five brothers: James, Joseph, David, Charles, and Robert as well as four sisters: Sarah, Ruth, Margaret, and twin Martha.

                Services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday at Highland Christian Church with William Kelly officiating.  Friends may call from 9:30 AM until the time of the service in the church.
