Eleanor Carman Obituary

Lisbon -           Eleanor Jean Carman, 88, died Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Salem Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

Born September 1, 1932 in Chester, WV, she was a daughter of the late Acey E. and Edna B. (Allen) Marshall.

A graduate of East Liverpool High School, Eleanor married her husband, Donald R. Carman on June 21, 1953. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Lisbon where she served as church secretary and was baptized by the Rev. Larry Dietch.

Eleanor led a full and active life. As a mother of five, Eleanor helped her husband run their business, Carman Construction as well as own and operate residential property. Eleanor also worked as a secretary for local businesses and even started a small business selling square dancing clothing.

Square dancing as a member of the Tri-County Square Dancers was one of Eleanor’s favorite hobbies. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and loved a good game of euchre. Eleanor’s favorite activity, though, was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and her great grandchildren who call her ‘Gigi.’

Survivors include her husband Donald R. Carman; four children:  Jeffrey (Theresa) Carman of Hurst, TX, Donald (Bennay) Carman of Salineville, David (Kim) Carman of Stuart, FL, and Steven Carman of Lisbon as well as a daughter-in-law, Laraine Carman. Eleanor also had ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her son Terry Carman, sister Lois McCord, and a brother, Wayne Marshall.

There will be a private family service officiated by Bob Garwood of the First Christian Church on Wednesday at the Weber Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Lisbon Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA  22116-7023.
